The Eagles did it! The team is officially two-time NFL Super Bowl champions. These players made us laugh, cry, and seek to embody their inner excellence. While the season may be officially over, we’re not ready just yet to put it behind us. As we make our victory lap, we look back at our favorite moments from the 2024-2025 season.
Saquon Barkley
This man just needs to be his own highlight, okay? In his first year with the Philadelphia Eagles, he went from being an undervalued running back to the AP Offensive Player of the Year (and MVP in our hearts).
He killed it on the field this year. Whether it was making history as the ninth running back to rush for 2,000 yards or breaking the Eagles’ single-game playoff rushing record with 205 yards in a snowed-out Linc, it’s been quite the year.
Ultimately the play that’s seared into our brains forever will be him not just dodging two tackles in a game against Jacksonville, but jumping over a third Jaguars player who was standing at full height. The backwards hurdle was so unbelievable that Barkley said he was even drug-tested afterward. Although he thinks he’ll probably never make that jump again, it will remain his most iconic moment unless he somehow outdoes himself.
One-Handed Catch
Another iconic moment from the same game that brought you the backwards hurdle was DeVonta Smith’s one-handed catch. The wide receiver’s toes came back down to Earth right in the nick of time to have the catch count for a touchdown and increase the Eagles’ lead. The team ultimately won that game 28-23.
Tanner McKee's First Touchdown
Congrats to Tanner McKee on his first touchdown pass and condolences to McKee for immediately losing the ball. The back-up quarterback threw for his first NFL career touchdown on Dec. 29 against the Dallas Cowboys. A.J. Brown caught the ball and threw it into the crowd in celebration – before realizing the significance of the ball. Brown went back to the crowd and asked the fan who caught it for the ball back. Brown signed the fan’s jersey as a thank you.
CJGJ Pick 6
As if you needed more reasons to laugh at the Cowboys, here’s another one: C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s first NFL touchdown was a pick six against Dallas. Johnson returned an interception for a 69-yard touchdown. It was awesome.
Cooper DeJean Tackle
Now that was just nasty. Cornerback Cooper DeJean made all Philly fans stand up and notice when he made this tackle on the Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry. He proved why he’s so exciting.
Inner Excellence
Our team is both exciting and excellent. A.J. Brown, who already makes headlines for his amazing plays on the field, then made the news for what he was doing over on the sidelines. During a game that carted away Green Bay Packer after Packer, Brown took some of his minimal downtime to make a dent in his reading list.
After cameras caught Brown reading “Inner Excellence” by Jim Murphy, the book skyrocketed on the best seller list. Fans rushed to purchase the book and one artist even made a blanket inspired by it.
Brown has been open about struggles with mental health. As the book focuses on living life to the fullest, may its words and the words of Brown encourage fans who need it most.
Steve Young Record
Jalen Hurts is having quite the year.
The only quarterback in franchise history to make it to two Super Bowls, Hurts scored three rushing touchdowns in the NFC championship victory, beating out quarterback Steve Young for the most postseason rushing touchdowns in NFL history.
55-23
We have to talk about this at least one last time.
It was the game that brought us to the grand finale. After going 1-1 against the Washington Commanders in the regular season, an NFC title and a ticket to the Super Bowl was on the line when we faced the team for a third time in the championship game. That’s when the Birds rolled over them, 55-23.
With the win, the team made history with the second highest score in a playoff game and the most by a team in a title conference game. It was quite the accomplishment, even if the Sixers were oddly quiet about it.
