Red October is officially here and we’re ready to cheer on the Phillies all month long. Whether you’re trying to see the game live or just with a small group of friends, here’s how you can jump on the bandwagon as the Phils’ first playoff game approaches this weekend.

South Street is the place to be on Saturday, as Paddywhack’s Pub will be the site of a 

. The game will be featured on a 30-foot TV truck. There’ll be an outdoor bar and seating, Phillies-themed drinks, and activities for the kids. The party begins at 2 p.m.

 will be on the scene to hype the crowd up. The station also has a pre-game live broadcast at Top Tomato on Oct. 5 and a watch party at Cavanaugh’s Rittenhouse on Oct. 6.

If you’d like to stick closer to the stadium, 

 (formerly Xfinity Live!) is booking reservations to watch the game on its 50-foot LED screen. Seating begins 30 minutes prior to the first pitch.

You can also combine two sports for double the fun.

You can’t just say you’re a fan; you need to look the part! Sure you can take the easy route and get

 to buy a ticket, but you can only purchase a postseason ticket if you are selected from the lottery drawing, as solely registering does not guarantee a ticket.

Sports can be a great way to stay fit, get off the couch, and make new friends. But as a national movement pushes for restrictions on transgender athletes, it may be daunting to join a sport where you may not feel welcome.

Whether you’re a pro or an amateur, here are local sports organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community in Philly.

Are you interested in kickball? What about bowling? Bocce? Stonewall Sports offers all that and more in its recreational sports leagues. Stonewall also offers wellness programming such as yoga, if you’re looking for something more lowkey.

You don’t need a beach to still play this sport. If you’re new to volleyball or just want to play for fun, Queer Volleyball hosts casual meetups twice a month at either Clark Park or Blue Bell Park.

Philly Queer Hoopers invites players of all skill levels to participate in its weekly pickup games. The schedule changes each season. Currently, if you’re looking for some friendly competition, swing by Palumbo Recreation Center on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. If you want something less intense, you can join a session at Kingsessing Recreation Center on either Thursdays at 6 p.m. or Sundays at 4 p.m.

No, this group isn’t about pickling (though someone should make one for that). Pickleball has been having a moment and this group is making sure the queer community isn’t excluded. Pickle Me Queer originally started out on the tennis courts at 47th and Spruce Streets. The group’s home base is now Kingsessing Recreation Center. If you’ve never played pickleball (or still don’t exactly understand what it is), there’s an introductory lesson before each session. At the beginning of each month Pickle Me Queer releases its meetup schedule.

Philadelphia Falcons formed in 1989 as a small group playing soccer on South Philly softball fields. As time went on, so did the need for safe places for LGBTQ+ players. The group would later grow large enough to join leagues and out-of-state tournaments. The Falcons formed its women’s teams in 1998. The group now has over 500 members playing in men’s, women’s, and nonbinary teams.

The Philly chapter of Outloud Sports invites anyone to join a league, no try-outs required. The sports offerings vary but during the spring and summer, new and seasoned athletes can join leagues for cornhole, soccer, kickball, basketball, and billiards.

The Philadelphia Rugby Football Club is the third oldest historically women’s club in the country, having formed in 1976. Since then, the club has affirmed its strong stance in accepting players who are transgender and/or nonbinary.

Hanging out regularly with the PRFC is the Philadelphia Gryphons. Formed in 2003 as the first men’s rugby club in the city, the Gryphons are now a gender-inclusive team. Before each competitive season, the Gryphons organize a Rugby 101 on-boarding clinic. The team is a member of International Gay Rugby and competes in Division I play.

Fly high on this squad. Founded in 2019, Philly Cheer Elite is made up of LGBTQ+ members and allies. The team uses their cheerleading skills to raise funds for LGBTQ+ organizations.

Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League

The Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League first came together in 2009 at Tarken Recreation Center. Now the league runs local seasons each fall and spring and has two travel teams competing in the National Gay Flag Football League. GPFFL is transparent in its mission of combatting discrimination and creating spaces for LGBTQ+ athletes.

Whether you’re a true jock or want to try something new, these Philly organizations are inclusive to the LGBTQ community.

Get ready to party, Philly! The Eagles are once again taking over the streets to celebrate the Super Bowl win. If you plan to watch the parade, here’s what to expect on Friday.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the NovaCare complex by the intersection of Broad Street and Pattinson Avenue. Open-air buses carrying the team will head north on Broad Street until City Hall. Then the buses will round the bend at Love Park to make their way down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with a final stop in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The ceremony in front of the museum is expected to begin at 2 p.m. and conclude by 3:15 p.m.

Walking is probably your best option if you live within a reasonable distance from the parade route. If you’re driving, expect multiple road closures in Center City. For a full list of closures, click 

If you’re coming from further out, consider public transportation. SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line (L) and Broad Street Line (B) will be free thanks to a sponsorship from Kevin Hart’s tequila brand, but it will be making limited stops.

Trolleys will mostly follow their regular routes but make limited stops within the tunnel. You can 

If you’re riding the Regional Rail, be aware that you will not be able to purchase fares day-of. You must load your Key Card or buy a ticket in advance. The trains will be running on a modified schedule from 4:30 a.m. to 10:50 p.m.

For our New Jersey readers, PATCO will be running on a modified schedule. Between 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., PATCO will run westbound-only service at Lindenwold, Woodcrest, Ferry Avenue, and Camden City Hall, with nonstop service to 9th/10th and Locust Streets. At 1 p.m., PATCO will switch to eastbound-only service starting from 9th/10th and Locust Streets, with regular service resuming by 7 p.m. If you plan to park your car by a station, be prepared for lots to reach capacity quickly. If you’re still trying to drive as close as you can to the parade route, expect temporary parking restrictions near the parade route. Sports complex parking lots will also be closed. Here are a few of parking options:

618 Market St Parking Garage (618 Market Street)

Washington Square Garage (249 S 6th Street)

Autopark at Independence Mall (41 N 6th Street)

Parkway Parking - 100 Independence Mall West (655 Ranstead Street)

400 Ranstead Street Garage (122 Ranstead Street)

There will be 15 jumbotrons along the parade route if you’re struggling to see Jalen Hurts from the crowd.

The NFL Network will broadcast the parade and stream on NFL.com. Local news stations such as 

One of the most important things you can do if you plan to head down to participate in the parade is to create a safety plan. The city anticipates hundreds of thousands of fans will pack the streets, and while it’s fun to be in community, this could create an opportunity for a crowd crush if something goes wrong.

And no, beer doesn’t count. Drink water. Porta-potties will be available around the Parkway.

There’s safety in numbers. Consider going with a friend not just for fun but to have each other’s backs. In a sea of green, wear something identifiable so you can find each other.

There will be a lot of congestion and cell service will be spotty due to the mass of people. Pick a spot to meet up before and after the event.

 If you feel trapped as the crowd gets unsafe or a stampede occurs, keep your arms in front of your chest and stand like a boxer to hold yourself steady and absorb any pressure. Work your way to the edge of the crowd to exit. If you fall at any point and struggle to get up, lie on your side to protect your head, heart, and lungs from getting crushed.

Aside from taking pics of the best core memories, you’ll want your devices charged in case of emergency. Charge your phones before you go and bring a (fully charged) portable charger.

. Although he thinks he’ll probably never make that jump again, it will remain his most iconic moment unless he somehow outdoes himself.

. The wide receiver’s toes came back down to Earth right in the nick of time to have the catch count for a touchdown and increase the Eagles’ lead. The team ultimately 

Congrats to Tanner McKee on his first touchdown pass and condolences to McKee for immediately losing the ball. The back-up quarterback threw for his 

 on Dec. 29 against the Dallas Cowboys. A.J. Brown caught the ball and threw it into the crowd in celebration – before realizing the significance of the ball. Brown went back to the crowd and asked the fan who caught it for the ball back. Brown signed the fan’s jersey as a thank you.

As if you needed more reasons to laugh at the Cowboys, here’s another one: C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s 

 against Dallas. Johnson returned an interception for a 69-yard touchdown. It was awesome.

Now that was just nasty. Cornerback Cooper DeJean made all Philly fans stand up and notice when he made 

 on the Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry. He proved 

Our team is both exciting and excellent. A.J. Brown, who already makes headlines for his amazing plays on the field, then made the news for what he was doing over on the sidelines. During a game that carted away Green Bay Packer after Packer, Brown took some of his minimal downtime to make 

, the book skyrocketed on the best seller list. Fans rushed to purchase the book and one artist even

It was the game that brought us to the grand finale. After going 1-1 against the Washington Commanders in the regular season, an NFC title and a ticket to the Super Bowl was on the line when we faced the team for a third time in the championship game. That’s when the Birds rolled over them, 55-23.

The Eagles are in pretty good shape if they’ve made it all the way to the Super Bowl. They ended the 

 and won the NFC Championship two weeks ago. That's a stark difference from the 2023 team that went 11-6 and didn’t make it far into the postseason after a pathetic 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The front office had to make some drastic changes after going from a team that almost won the Super Bowl to … that. Key changes included replacing the offensive coordinator with Kellen Moore and the defensive coordinator with Vic Fangio (whose addition was a homecoming of sorts, as he's from the Scranton area). NFL’s Biggest Loser: The New York Giants

Hindsight is 20/20 and the Giants organization certainly wishes they had the foresight to keep Barkley.

After failing to secure a deal with their former player, the 

 to learn that Barkley found a new home with the Philadelphia Eagles, a division rival. Giants fans were quick to burn their Barkley merch, but Barkley had the last laugh as he’s been an
