Philadelphia has one of the hottest food scenes in the country — just ask the Michelin Guide, which awarded three Philly restaurants a Michelin star last year.

Since our culinary landscape is constantly growing and changing, we’re here to help you stay on top of it all. Here’s a recap of some of the Philly restaurants, bars, cafés, and other food spots that have recently opened.

March 2026

Cookie Head | 268 S. 20th St. (Rittenhouse)

Rittenhouse has become the “Cookie Capital of Philly,” thanks to the abundance of gourmet cookie shops in the neighborhood. Blueprint Cookies relaunched earlier this month as Cookie Head, offering four core flavors: chocolate chip, cookies & cream, sugar cookie, and chocolate peanut butter. Each month, the shop rotates a selection of special flavors, such as guava cheesecake. There’s also a selection of vegan and gluten-free treats!

Lucky Duck | 501 N. Christopher Columbus Blvd., Suite 2003 (Northern Liberties)

Enjoy waterfront views at this new tavern located along the Delaware River, the latest venture from the owners behind Libertee Grounds. The bar offers tavern plates including burgers, oysters, steak frites, and oven-roasted wings. If you’re looking to try unique cocktails, go for the caramelized onion martini.

Val’s Lesbian Bar | 605 S. 3rd St. (Queen Village)

Philly’s only lesbian bar (and one of just a few remaining in the country) has finally arrived! Located inside the former Reef Restaurant & Lounge, the bar has two floors for sapphics to gather. The menu includes hot dogs (real meat and vegan options), grilled cheese, and toasted chickpeas. For drinks, you can grab the “Butch Bait” or “Touch-Me-Not” cocktails, or select a beverage from the mocktail menu.

Terra Grill | 1099 Germantown Ave. (Northern Liberties)

Michelin-winning chef Laurent Tourondel is bringing wood-fired cooking to Northern Liberties. Guests can expect a flavorful, seasonal menu with dishes such as grilled branzino, prime rib, and orange-spiced duck breast.

Beard Papa’s | 104 N. 10th St. (Chinatown)

Chinatown’s latest addition is right next to its iconic Friendship Gate. The Japanese chain with a cult-like following is bringing its cream puffs to Philly. Choose from flavors like matcha, Oreo, chocolate, or the original with a vanilla bean custard filling.

February 2026

Mini Mac Mart | 1800 Arch St. (Center City)

If you were sad to see Mac Mart’s brick-and-mortar store close its doors, fear not. Your mac-and-cheese needs can still be met at its new kiosk right outside the Comcast Center. You can also grab hoagies, cupcakes, and other treats from local eateries.

Lovat Square | 184 E. Evergreen Ave. (Chestnut Hill)

Pick up a bottle or attend a tasting at Lovat Square, where wine connoisseurs and casual drinkers can browse a selection of 400 wines. The new addition to Chestnut Hill is opening in phases, with outdoor dining in the garden in the spring and a full-service restaurant and bar in the fall.

Ricci’s Hoagies | 242 E. Girard Ave. (Fishtown)

After making hoagies for over a century, Ricci’s is showing no sign of slowing down. The hoagie shop has expanded to Fishtown, where you can grab a chicken salad hoagie, black pepper turkey hoagie, or the corned beef special.

Pretzel Day Pretzels | 1501 S. 5th St. (Dickinson Narrows)

Philly loves its cheesesteaks and hoagies, but pretzels are another staple in this city. Go beyond the typical salted pretzel at Pretzel Day Pretzels, where you can order flavors like cinnamon sugar, longhots provolone, or s’mores.

Cake & Joe | 1735 Market St. (Center City)

The dessert shop opened its third location this month after gaining a following in Pennsport and Fishtown. The new storefront offers indoor and outdoor seating, evening coffee hours, and its signature mousse cakes. Need something savory? The shop has breakfast and lunch options, with expanded grab-and-go service at the Center City location.

Little Bean | 5015 Baltimore Ave. (Cedar Park)

Cleo Bagels’ loyal customers in need of coffee to shake off their sleepiness can stop right next door at Little Bean. Grab some bagels, bialys, or espresso and hang out in the new sister location.

South Sichuan II | 1537 Spring Garden St. (Spring Garden)

South Sichuan is bringing the heat with its authentic Sichuan meals. Munch on dandan noodles, cumin-style lamb, and dry pepper wings. The restaurant also provides several gluten-free options in a separate menu.

January 2026

d’griot cafe | 51-53 Maplewood Mall (Germantown)

If you used to be a regular at Franny Lou’s Porch in Kensington, its spirit lives on at d’griot cafe. Blew Kind’s gallery and community space has already been operating workshops and storytimes, but the wellness cafe is the newest addition. Grab a yogurt bowl or biscuit breakfast sandwich before going about your day.

Carbon Copy | 613 S. 7th Street (Bella Vista)

You no longer have to schlep over to West Philly or Port Richmond for this taproom experience. Carbon Copy has officially expanded to South Philly, serving up locally-made beers and wines. The menu also has a variety of non-alcoholic options. Don’t just go for the drinks — the pizza and wings are pretty solid.

Crust Vegan Bakery | 4200 Ridge Ave. (East Falls)

If you need something sweet that’s vegan-friendly, stop by Crust Vegan Bakery’s new location. Grab ice cream, brownies, and custom cakes that are free of animal products. And if you try one of Crust’s toaster tarts, you won’t ever think about Pop-Tarts again. Plans for the new location include cake-decorating classes.

Ponder Bar | 2532 Coral St. (East Kensington)

Philly’s bar scene just got bigger. Serving up drinks from Human Robot and channeling an eclectic vibe with decor from Thunderbird Salvage, the bar’s keeping things local by inviting patrons to come and ponder in good company. Ponder also has a takeout wine and beer shop if you’re on the go.

Emilia | 2406 Frankford Ave. (East Kensington)

Another new addition to the neighborhood is the latest venture from James Beard semifinalist Greg Vernick. Taking inspiration from travels in Italy and collaborator Meri Medoway’s heritage, this restaurant offers handmade pastas, crudo, and antipasti with seasonal ingredients.

December 2025

Manong | 1833 Fairmount Ave. (Fairmount)

The Phillypino food scene continues to grow. Fans of Filipino BYOB Tabachoy will be excited to hear that its “big brother” restaurant is finally open. Manong is ‘90s-inspired grillhouse with prime rib, blooming mushroom, and lumpia on the menu. Nostalgic guests will recognize details from a decade gone by, including a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game and a playlist with the ’90s’ biggest hits.

Banshee | 1600 South St. (Graduate Hospital)

Get a taste of Europe while staying stateside. Banshee, the latest addition to South Street West’s bustling restaurant scene, takes inspiration from France, Spain, and England. Enjoy Spanish mackerel, Berkshire pork collar, and great white oysters. If you’re headed for the bar, seats are available for walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis.

Second Hand Ranch | 1148 Frankford Ave. (Fishtown)

Head down to this bank-turned-saloon for a full cowboy experience. Second Hand Ranch is your one-stop shop for vintage threads, hot dogs, and beer. The hybrid space’s saloon is serving up Western inspired cocktails like Gold Rush and Spicy Saddle. A full food menu will be available in February.

Trung Nguyên Legend | 113-117 Washington Ave. (Pennsport)

Move over, Starbucks. One of Vietnam’s biggest coffee brands is setting up shop in South Philly. Popular drinks include affogato, tiramisu latte, and sparkling espresso. If the beautiful interiors aren’t enough for you, go upstairs for rooftop views. This is a good spot if you need a caffeine boost late in the day or a place to hang out after work that isn’t a bar. This cafe is open until 8:30 p.m.

Old City Kava | 40 S. 2nd Street (Old City)

If you’re looking for more alcohol-free options as Dry January approaches, check out this new botanical beauty in the city. Stocked with tea from Northern Liberties’ Random Tea Room, customers can pick blends that match their needs, from digestive relief to immune resistance. This is another space open late, opening some days at 8 a.m. and closing as late as 2 a.m., giving Philadelphians more places to socialize without the booze.

Pine Street Grill | 2227 Pine St. (Center City)

Nestled right at the edge of Fitler Square, Pine Street Grill is intended as a casual, everyday restaurant for neighbors. From the team behind Michelin-winner Her Supper Club, the grill offers “Philly Balls” with roast pork, provolone, broccoli rabe, and hot relish; a PSG Burger with two dry-aged beef patties smashed with Cooper sharp; and fat eggplant parm.

November 2025

Uchi | 1620 Sansom St. (Rittenhouse)

"Uchi" is the Japanese word for home, and that sentiment is at the center of James Beard Award-winning chef Tyson Cole’s upscale restaurant. Cole opened the first location in Austin in 2003 and has since expanded to eight cities — with three more Uchi locations planned for 2026. The new Philly spot, led by Chef Ford Sonnenberg, is cozy and full of non-traditional Japanese dishes like Hama Chili in addition to some locally-inspired meals.

WineDive | 1534 Sansom St. (Rittenhouse)

A fateful fire soured the grapes at the original Wine Dive in 2022, along with sister restaurants owned by what was then Hawthorne’s Restaurant Group. Fast forwarding through delays and headaches, the group has evolved into Happy Monday Hospitality and brings back the wine-centric concept in a smaller space with an “old Hollywood meets Atlantic City” vibe and a killer lineup of accessible wines. There are daily specials, sweet treats, and the kitchen is open until 1 a.m.

Cerveau | 990 Spring Garden St. (Spring Arts District)

Recently opened inside a mixed-used building on Spring Garden Street, this casual bar and restaurant calls itself the grownup cousin of the now-closed Pizza Brain in Fishtown — ”cerveau” means brain in French. The space is modern and the menu touts creative takes on pizza, pasta, and tramezzini. There’s also a decent nonalcoholic lineup alongside bold wines and craft beer.

Chai Nashta | 4520 Baltimore Ave. (West Philly)

Like many of the businesses along Baltimore Avenue, the arrival of this Indian café had been delayed since last year. Thankfully, Chai Nashta is finally in soft launch mode with limited hours posted on its Instagram.

Fluffy Fluffy Dessert Cafe | 2201 Cottman Ave., Suite 113 (Northeast Philly)

The latest iteration of the Toronto-based restaurant is bringing its soufflé desserts (plus other breakfast and dinner options) to Northeast Philly. It features just about every sweet or savory breakfast dish you could ever want, and it all starts with the house-made soufflés available in 15 flavors.

October 2025

The Bread Room | 834 Chestnut St. (Washington Square West)

Ellen Yin of High Street Hospitality and Cookbooks & Convos has opened her latest concept, The Bread Room. You can find pastrami on rye croissants and whole grain sourdough loaves on the menu. The Bread Room includes an event space and it’s already hosting workshops and experiences.

Rockwell & Rose | 601 Walnut St. (Old City)

The steakhouse and oyster bar is reminiscent of Cape May, with its coastal decor and light color palette. Menu items jumbo crab cakes and key lime pie brûlée. For drinks, try the “Land of Enchantment” cocktail with Ketel One Vodka, sake, lychee, lemon, and grapefruit, or the “On Pop of the World” mocktail with lime, mint, Sprite, and hibiscus.

Smalls’ Provisions | 2241 Memphis St. (Fishtown)

A realization of owner Mark Gears’ dream of opening a sandwich shop, this new breakfast and lunch spot brings new life to the former One Stop deli. From peppers-and-eggs to cheeseburgers, you can grab quick bites or everyday goods all in one spot.

Dance Robot | 1710 Sansom St. (Rittenhouse)

Inspired by Japanese izakayas and kissatens, this new establishment from Royal Sushi & Izakaya’s Jesse Ito is serving up katsu curry, kare pan, and wagyu roast beef. You can make reservations for dinner, but the bar is available for walk-ins. Expect brunch hours, late night bites, and live jazz soon. (I also recommend checking out its website for a fun and retro interactive surprise.)

Olive Roots Cafe | 618 S. 2nd St. (Queen Village)

The newest addition to Philly’s ever-growing coffee scene is Olive Roots Cafe. Its signature drinks include the pumpkin spice roots chai latte (perfect for fall), strawberry roots matcha latte, and pistachio roots latte. If you need fresh air, there is additional seating outside.

September 2025

Marsha’s South Street | 430 South St. (Queen Village)

Women’s sports are having a renaissance in Philly, and Marsha’s is the spot bringing their fandoms together. The first queer women’s sports bar in the city, Marsha’s opening was highly anticipated. Casual and die-hard fans alike can watch their favorite teams compete on several screens while munching on bar food such as pickled dogs, pimento cheesy dogs, and everything spice popcorn.

Sweet 45 | 2000 N. Front St. (Norris Square)

Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean you stop having a sweet tooth. If you’re craving some ice cream (dairy and non-dairy), visit Philly’s new dessert bar and listening room. Listen to the vinyl spins as your tastebuds are delighted by the signature vanilla bean ice cream with caramelized sweet plantain, Maldon sea salt, and a caramel drizzle. And if you’re looking for more listening rooms in the city, there are quite a few.

Fleur’s | 2205 N. Front St. (Kensington)

If you’re looking to go out for a special occasion, stop by Philly’s new “French-ish” restaurant: Fleur’s. Menu items include roasted half chicken, steak frites au poivre, and chocolate torte. The restaurant is part of a larger plan for a hotel, event space, and rooftop bar.

Sao | 1710 E. Passyunk (East Passyunk)

If you’re a fan of Mawn, check out the James Beard winner’s newest venture, Sao. The Southeast Asian restaurant embodies the team’s personal connection with seafood and pays homage to how co-owner Phila Lorn’s mother, a Cambodian immigrant, would pronounce the “South” in South Philly. While they have an exciting raw seafood bar, diners can also order select cooked dishes and enjoy a drink from its beverage program, a step away from Mawn’s BYOB model. Walk-in seating is limited, so reserve a table before they book quickly.

Tesiny | 719 Dickinson Street (Dickinson Narrows)

If you can’t get a reservation at Sao but are still craving oysters, how about checking out Tesiny? Also located in South Philly, Lauren Biederman’s latest contribution to Philly’s food scene is a raw bar and charcoal grill in a converted garage. Some menu favorites include the scallops crudo, seafood platters, and of course, oysters.

August 2025

Borromini | 1805 Walnut St. (Rittenhouse)

The highly anticipated opening of Stephen Starr’s new restaurant is finally here. Borromini, the Italian restaurant taking over the former Barnes & Noble, includes meals like 100 layer lasagna, branzino, and lamb scottadito. Its wines feature selections from Italian regions.

Cormorant Corner Bar | 2301 Frankford Ave. (East Kensington)

As we begin to say goodbye to Say No More, JJ Bootleggers, and McGlinchey’s, we’re welcoming a new addition to Philly’s bar scene. Cormorant is swooping into the former location of Bob’s Happy Hour Tavern. Its drink menu includes signature cocktails like the banana negroni, coffee+cigarettes, and the high road. The bar is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. every day.

Sonny’s Cocktail Joint | 1508 South Street (Graduate Hospital)

First, there was a fire that forced Sonny’s Cocktail Joint (along with Wine Dive and Rabbit) to close in 2022. Then after three years, the bar made a triumphant return only to be damaged by a flood. After some time spent making repairs, Sonny’s is back again with its robust cocktail menu. And hopefully, a third reopening isn’t necessary.

Turmeric Indian Kitchen | 1240 Spring Garden St. (Callowhill)

Located at the site of the former Satay Bistro, Turmeric Indian Kitchen is spicing things up with meals such as turmeric lamb chops, fiery Bombay wings, and shrimp/fish tikka masala.

July 2025

Duskaia | 1007 S. 9th St. (Bella Vista)

The Italian Market is getting some Nicaraguan flavors. Duskaia is the newest coffee shop opening in the neighborhood. Located in the former Alma de Mar, this women-owned business will serve Nicaraguan coffee along with menu items like pastries and Rocky-inspired smoothies.

Flannel | 1819 E. Passyunk Ave. (East Passyunk)

If you were sad to say goodbye to Flannel when it was replaced with DaVinci & Yu, you’re in luck. The owner behind both restaurants is bringing back the Southern comfort food with pop-ups on the weekend.

KINTO | 1144 Frankford Ave. (Fishtown)

This new spot near Fabrika is bringing a taste of Georgia (the country) to Philly. Treat yourself to a traditional Georgian beef soup, stuffed grape leaves, or khachapuri, the boat-shaped stuffed cheese bread. Kinto also serves vegan and vegetarian dishes.

June 2025

Casa Borinqueña | 2557 Amber St. (East Kensington)

This California newcomer puts a vegan spin on Puerto Rican classics including mofongo cups (deep-fried mashed green plantain filled with Impossible beef or Mojo mushroom pork), pasteles (masa of plantain and yuca filled with Beyond beef steak wrapped in banana leaf), and pastelillos (deep-fried turnover filled with Impossible beef picadillo).

El Chingón | 1431 Frankford Ave. (Fishtown)

This local favorite has officially expanded to Fishtown, taking over the former Heffe taco stand on Frankford Avenue. The new joint will have a casual vibe with menu items that include its signature cemitas (Al Pastor, Birria, and the stacked Cubana), a variety of tacos, and street-style elotes. This location will also serve cocktails.

Malai Ice Cream | 260 S. 18th Street (Rittenhouse)

We have some great spots in the city to grab frozen treats, so of course we’re excited to see a new ice cream shop with a twist open in Philly. Malai Ice Cream uses South Asian ingredients to provide a spice-forward flavor with options like lemon cardamom, masala chai, and rose with cinnamon roasted almonds.

Ama | 101 W. Oxford St. (Fishtown)

Named after the informal way to say “mom” in Spanish, this live-fire Mexican restaurant is bringing flavor to Fishtown. Diners can expect wild mushroom tlayada, coal roasted octopus, shrimp ceviche tostada, and lamb birria. Bar seating is walk-in, but reservations are encouraged for the main dining room.

April 2025

Irv’s Ice Cream | 932 E. Passyunk Ave. (Bella Vista)

After serving up scoops at Cherry Street Pier in 2024, Irv’s owner Ilissa Shapiro took her pastry career to the next level with an official brick-and-mortar location. Customers can expect custard-based ice cream in flavors such as banana chocolate tahini swirl and pistachio praline and an “ATM” with Flakley’s pastry. The ice cream shop joins a plethora of bustling businesses along East Passyunk’s growing corridor.

Javelin | 1811 Fairmount Ave. (Fairmount)

If you were a fan of Engimono Sushi and were sad to see it go, we have good news! Javelin, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, took over the restaurant’s former space. The new addition to Fairmount includes seared Japanese A5 wagyu, sashimi ceviche salad, and a dozen specialty rolls.

Plant and People | 3952 Lancaster Ave. (West Powelton)

After giving us a brief scare when announcing they were closing up shop on 52nd Street, the owners of Plant + People reassured us with the news they were moving to an even bigger space. The café and plant nursery offers workshops, events, and goods to support a plant-based lifestyle.

Haraz Coffee House | 3421 Chestnut St. (University City)

The first Yemini Coffee House in Philly is officially open. The Bryn Mawr couple running the franchise’s Philly location opened it with the vision of creating a third space and sharing their culture. If you need something with low caffeine, you can try Juban, which is made from coffee husks and infused with cinnamon, cardamom, and cinnamon. You can also grab a bite of pastries, baked either in-house or by local vendors, such as pistachio mosaic cake and sweet cream donuts.

March 2025

Tequilas Casa Mexicana | 1602 Locust Street (Center City)

Rising like a phoenix from the flames, Tequilas has reopened after a devastating fire in February 2023 shuttered its doors. Dinners can expect Mexican dishes such as tinga poblana (chicken stew that can be served vegan), enchiladas suizas (tortillas filled with crab meat and melted cheese), and langostinos a la diabla (served with rice and tequila sauce). And coming soon to the restaurant’s Latimer Street side is a new spin-off of Tequilas – La Jefa, an all-day café.

Supérette | 1538 E. Passyunk Ave. (East Passyunk)

The bakery case is stocked daily with Filipino pastries.

Forîn has expanded its business with the opening of a third location, rebranding the former WIM Cafe at the Yowie Hotel. The new location’s menu has a Southeast Asian influence under the guidance of Indonesian-American chef Ariel Tobang, with highlights like ube lattes. The cafe plans to host vendor popups and chef takeovers.

Germantown Espresso Bar | 6369 Germantown Ave. (Germantown)
