Up until Monday, June 26, Pennsylvania was under a drought watch. Throughout the entire month of May, Philly only received 0.24 inches of rain, making it the driest May on record.
But the taps suddenly turned on, bringing rain and thunderstorms to the Greater Philadelphia area this week. Scattered thunderstorms on Monday and overnight into Tuesday caused more than 95,000 power outages in the region.
The air is also feeling thick and sticky, and while these levels of humidity are pretty normal for June, it has been unusually cool this year.
So far this month, Philly only had one day with temperatures above 90 degrees, yet the norm for June is six. Forecasters predict Thursday and Friday will be sunny, warm, and clear, but storms may return this weekend.
