Whether you’re brand new to the city, or you’re just looking to expand your circle, making friends isn’t always easy. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few ways to meet new people in Philly.

📚 Books

If you’re a book lover and an adventure lover, check out Novel Tourists. This group pairs book discussions with fun excursions like hiking, museum strolls, and café dining. This Friday, the group is going on a food and history walking tour of Chinatown!

Hit up Giovanni’s Room in the Gayborhood for monthly Thursday meetups celebrating queer literature 🏳️‍🌈

🐦 Birding

From warblers to hummingbirds, Philly is home to more than 300 species of birds. Grab those binoculars and spot as many as you can with BirdPhilly meetups.

Head to one of these 11 Free Library branches and pick up a birding backpack, complete with a bird guidebook, park map, and binoculars.

Psst: the Free Library of Philadelphia has plenty more unusual items you can borrow.  [City Cast Philly 🎧]

💜 Volunteering

The Mayor’s Office has an online portal that connects you with nonprofits and other groups in need of volunteers. Once you find the perfect opportunity, just click “sign up” and you’ll receive email updates with information about upcoming volunteer events.

⚽ Recreation

Every 2nd and 4th Friday, head to the boathouse at FDR Park for free salsa lessons and a social dance party. All-levels welcome. If you’re into racket sports, the park also boasts a pickleball meetup.

Interested in water sports? Philly has plenty of dragon boat and rowing teams to join.

Have you had any success finding friends through joining a local group? I’d love to hear about it!
