Philadelphia is bursting with culture. But how do you navigate all these galleries and museums as a resident on a budget? Here are some insider-tips to get the best out of your city without breaking the bank.
On the first Sunday of every month, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has pay-what-you-wish admission. It’s also pay-what-you-wish after 5 p.m. every Friday with musical performances and drinks served in the Great Stair Hall. So you could start OR end your weekend here.
You can get into the Barnes Foundation for free every Sunday. Keep an eye out for free programming and events that run regularly.
Outside of museum settings, on the first Friday of every month, residents can explore Old City’s thriving art scene for free. The 40+ galleries open their doors for visitors to soak in all the paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and more.
For only $35, you could check out the new self-directed Streets Dept. mural tour curated by Conrad Brenner. The book includes an intro to the murals that cover the city, along with public parks and the curators’ favorite places to eat.
