In March, Mayor Kenney proposed a city budget, but it’s still awaiting approval and editing by City Council.

On Monday, Councilmember Jamie Gauthier announced her #JusticeServicesPHL Fiscal Year 2024 budget plan, which calls for investments into addressing quality-of-life issues, such as illegal dumping and dangerous driving.

To improve street safety, the plan calls for $5 million to improve traffic safety on the High Injury Network, the group of city streets where 80% of the city’s traffic fatalities occur.

Gauthier also wants to hire six new Streets Department crews to tackle illegal dumping, and invest $5 million into cleaning and greening efforts on privately owned lots.

“When we invest in the basic things that make people feel safe – clean streets, working lights, well-maintained buildings – we allow neighborhoods to thrive,” Councilmember Kendra Brooks wrote on Twitter.
