Free Thanksgiving Meals, Giveaways, and Potlucks in Philly

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and Philadelphians are preparing to feast — and empty their wallets in the process. Due to loss from disease, wholesale turkey prices are expected to be 40% higher this year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.

So local organizations are chipping in with turkey giveaways and Thanksgiving dinners so no one goes hungry this holiday season.

Nov. 15

The Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Triumph Baptist Church’s Men’s Ministry, is distributing Thanksgiving baskets on a first-come, first-served basis. The church is located at 1648 W. Hunting Park Ave. Guests can stop by between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Nov. 18

Disability Pride PA is hosting a Turkey Bingo Luncheon at the Stephen F. Gold Apartments at 5208 Poplar St. from noon to 3 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a dish or dessert to share, but no one will be turned away if they are unable to bring food. Allies can donate by emailing vicki@disabilitypridepa.org.

T.I.P.S. and NKM Consulting, in partnership with Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jalyx Hunt and PA Health & Wellness, are giving away 500 turkey dinner kits to families in need. Guests can also receive one winter coat per person. The event will be at Lucien Blackwell Center at 761 N. 47th St. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Nov. 20

The Rook Catering Company is hosting its first Give Thanks & Give Back event with complimentary food, whiskey tasting, and live music in its patio space at 4001 Cresson St. in Manayunk. Attendees are asked to bring a gift card to support other families this season. The party starts at 7 p.m. and attendance is free.

The New Kensington Community Development Corporation and the Community Center at Visitation is hosting its annual Nourish & Give Thanks event at 2646 Kensington Ave. Families will have access to fresh produce, turkeys, and culturally relevant ingredients. Community members can contribute to the fund here.

Nov. 21

Galaei is hosting a Chosen Family Potluck for queer and trans youth who may not have a safe and supportive place to go for the holidays. The celebration will be at 118 Fontaine St. at 6 p.m. Attendees are asked to register in advance by Nov. 15.

Nov. 22

Sadaqah 4 You is giving away one free halal raw turkey per household. Distribution will be at Daroff Charter School located at 5630 Vine St. and begins at 11 a.m. Interested volunteers can arrive at 10 a.m.

Vetri Community Partnership is giving away turkeys, canned goods, and spices to 150 families. Families get one turkey per household and can sign up for either an 11 a.m. slot or 11:30 a.m. slot.

Nov. 25

State Rep. Rick Krajewski and Councilmember Nicolas O’Rourke are teaming up for a Thanksgiving Turkey & Grocery Giveaway. Over 100 turkeys, canned goods, and fresh produce will be given away. Bring a bag and get to Conquers CDC at 5220 Whitby Ave. by 10 a.m.

Whether you’re in recovery or just in need of good company, Unity Recovery is hosting a Friendsgiving open to all at 4220 Main St. Doors open at noon, giving time to mingle before food is served at 1 p.m. After your meal, stick around for coffee, games, and other activities. The event is free and you can register by emailing contact@unityrecovery.org.

Nov. 26

Taller Puertorriqueño is hosting a Thanksgiving luncheon and clothing drive in its cultural center from noon to 3 p.m.
