With the warm weather of spring comes a rush of lively weekend events — including the opportunity to gather with fellow Philadelphians to eat your way through the city, al fresco. Where can you do this in the coming month? Here are a few outdoor food festivals you can attend in April and May.
Sunday, April 28, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
Cheesesteak bao buns! Nashville hot chicken vegan chorizo wraps! Poutine! Find it all on East Passyunk Avenue this weekend.
Saturday, May 4, 11 a.m.–8 p.m.
Brauhaus Schmitz’s annual South Street block party celebrates May Day and German culture with music, dancing, beer, and food, from schnitzel to sauerkraut.
Saturday, May 4, 12–5 p.m.
Described in previous years as an “upscale festival,” the event promises fashion, live music, a showcase of local artists, and food and drink selections from the neighborhood.
Saturday, May 11, 12–6 p.m.
Food is not the main event at this offbeat celebration. But if you’ve ever had the desire to chow down on some local eats alongside 15,000 to 25,000 other people as you watch competitors race on human-powered contraptions … this is the event for you.
Saturday, May 18, 11–5:30 p.m.
This four-block event celebrates the food, music, and businesses of the Brewerytown, Sharswood, and Fairmount communities.
Saturday, May 18, 12–6 p.m.
Head up to Northwest Philly for a springtime showcase of local artisans, complete with music, food, and craft beer.
Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. (some individual events start earlier)
This multi-day extravaganza in South Philly offers 140+ vendors, live entertainment, a procession of saints, and (of course) the traditional grease pole climbing competition.
Wednesday, May 22, 5–10 p.m.
Busy on the weekends? Mark your calendar for the chance to stroll a car-free North 2nd Street and try out some food trucks on a weeknight.
