This chilly weather is making me crave one of my favorite foods — soup! Philly has a variety of wonderful soups, from French onion to wonton. Below are eight soups to try, and check out the City Cast Philly podcast from earlier this year for even more soup spots.
Café Lutécia | Center City
The rotating selection of soups at this charming French cafe in Fitler Square are all tremendous, but the tomato bisque – when available – is the best bisque you’ve ever had. Pair it with a quiche or sandwich – we adore the hot Gaulois sandwich (salami, brie, sundried tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and pecans).
Cafe Nhan | South Philly
Vietnamese pho is the perfect comfort on a blech winter evening. The speciality here? Bun bo hue dac biet, a spicy lemongrass soup with marinated beef brisket, pig feet, and steamed pork roll.
Café y Chocolate | South Philly
For a vegetarian option, try the tortilla soup at Café y Chocolate. It’s made with rich pasilla broth, tortilla strips, avocado, Mexican cheese, and a dollop of sour cream.
Famous Fourth Street Deli | Queen Village
Got the winter sniffles and need an old-fashioned remedy? Head to this Philadelphia institution for matzo ball soup with a baseball-sized matzo ball swimming in yummy broth.
Juana Tamale | South Philly
This one’s a must-try — birria ramen. On the side, you’ll find a quesabirria taco filled with beef, cilantro, consomme, green onion, and sesame seeds to dip into that soup.
Parc | Rittenhouse Square
Craving French onion soup? Parc is the place. One Reddit user even called it the “best soup” they’ve ever had.
Sang Kee | Chinatown
While this spot is known for its duck, the wonton noodle soup is pure comfort. It comes with pork, duck, vegetables, and, of course, savory wontons.
The Couch Tomato Café | Manayuk
Indulge in The Couch Tomato Cafe’s vegan and gluten-free tomato basil bisque, or savor the rich chicken chipotle corn chowder. Pair either with a sandwich or salad for the perfect meal combo.
