Inflation is real; we’ve all seen the price of eggs skyrocketing lately. But the good news is that you might have some cash lying around that you don’t even know about!
Banks, insurance companies, and other corporations are legally required to report dormant accounts — like payroll checks, safe deposit boxes, uncashed checks, and refunds — but many funds remain unreturned or unclaimed.
Last year, the treasury returned more than $211 million in unclaimed property to its rightful owners, and the Unclaimed Property Programcan track down unclaimed money that belongs to you.
All you need to do is fill out an online form with your name or business name. Include your address and addresses where you’ve lived to help narrow down your search.
If there are unclaimed funds in your name, a list will appear with addresses, zip codes, and the type of property being held. If you see your name and all the information is correct, hit the "Claim" button. Then you’ll be asked to fill out a few paper forms and send them to the Pennsylvania State Treasury.
If you’ve lived in another state, don’t forget to check if you have any unclaimed money there too.
Good luck if you try it out, and if you do, let me know how much you get 💰
