Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro will not publicize his daily calendar, breaking with the practice of his predecessor, Gov. Tom Wolf. This will obscure who Shapiro meets with and what they discuss, according to Spotlight PA.

Shapiro spokesperson Manuel Bonder told the news outlet that Shapiro’s office releases the Governor’s public schedule to reporters every day and that Shapiro “will continue to be accessible to people of the Commonwealth.”

The state’s Office of Open Records recently ruled that Shapiro has the right to keep his daily schedule private. Shapiro’s attorneys argued that his calendars are personal and serve no official purpose, therefore they should not be subject to PA’s Right-to-Know Law.

This isn’t Shapiro’s first time rolling back a transparency measure. When he prepared to step into his role, he had members of his team sign nondisclosure agreements, and he also refused to name the private donors who funded his inaugural celebration.

Should public officials have to share their calendars?
