There’s a lot to love about Philly. Name another city where people watch out for each other as good or better than Philadelphians? You can’t. Because this really is still the “City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection”. City Cast Philly is here for it all — the good and the bad. Every day on this show, you’ll hear from the team highlighting what makes this gritty, beautiful, complex city we call home just a little bit better. Get in touch with us at philly@citycast.fm.

A Philly hidden gem:
Paine’s Park for skateboarding, roller skating and roller blading
A Philly unsung hero:
P. Michael Boone, also known as Mr. P, he teaches children how to become barbers
Best pop culture about Philly:

A Philly hidden gem:
Black and Nobel is a small shop on South St. that I walked past many times before noticing. But now whenever I need some good soap and even better conversation I head in to chat with the owner and his son.
A Philly unsung hero:
Jamal Johnson is someone everyone should know! A Philly-raised anti-gun violence activist, he has been integral in Philly’s push to address the tragedies of gun violence and demand action.
The tourist trap in Philly that’s worth a visit:
Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. The mosaic garden along with the attached art gallery that has been in progress since 1991. The layers of the expansive mosaic tunnels leave me seeing something new every time I go.

Executive Producer
A Philly hidden gem:
John Heinz Wildlife Refuge: This place may be nestled against both the airport and I-95, but it’s a beautiful refuge with frogs and fauna and birds you’ve never seen before. Plus, it's free.
Where I'd take you to eat:
Café Lutécia in Fitler Square: Hot Gaulois Sandwich (salami, brie, sundried tomatoes, shredded lettuce and PECANS). It’s amazing. And a cup of the best tomato bisque I’ve ever had. Double espresso.
A Philly unsung hero:
Fergie Carey, founder of several of the best bars in town. Fergie’s Pub was the second place (after Dirty Frank’s) that I hung out at when I moved here more than two decades ago. Fergie himself is a stalwart presence around town, and when I see him -- recently at the Philadelphia Music Festival, years ago at a funk show at Bob & Barbara’s, and back in the day over coffee at The Beauty Shop Cafe -- it's a signal to my Philadelphia soul that we’re all having a good time.

A Philly hidden gem:
Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden in Norris Square - community space with artwork repurposing waste such as tires, concrete, and scrap metal. And designed by one person!
What Philly does best:
Philly sports fans love our teams but know to hold them accountable when they're not doing their best. Some call it being a hater. We call it tough love.
The tourist trap in town that’s worth visiting:
Reading Terminal Market - it can get overwhelming with the amount of people who visit but the food and local businesses make it so worth it. I recommend Tambayan, Luhv Vegan Deli, and Nanee's Kitchen.
