David Wesolowski, aka Dave Wez, is a local foodie and creator of Feeding Time TV, a food blog and Instagram account. He spoke with City Cast Philly about what makes Philly hoagies so iconic. His answers have been condensed for space and clarity.

What makes a quintessential hoagie to you?

“In my opinion, it has to be on a seeded roll, not cut in half. Once you cut the top from the bottom, I would say it's no longer a hoagie. Meats and cheeses. Lettuce, tomato, onion. Oregano also adds that extra taste. I do mayo and oil and vinegar if I want that tang to it.”

What are your go-to toppings?

"Mayo is a must. I like the creaminess. Some people will hate me for saying that, But, I like the mayo. I think it adds to the taste. Fried tomatoes, and onions. It doesn't matter to me. It doesn't matter to me what kind. They could be red onions, they could be sweet onions, yellow onions. It doesn't matter.”

What are your top 5 favorite spots in Philly?

Farina Di Vita at 250 Catherine Street.

P + S Ravioli at 1722 Oregon Avenue.

Lil Nick’s at 1311 W Moyamensing Ave.

Ricci’s on 1165 S 11th Street.

Angelo’s on 736 S 9th Street.
